The 2nd US Ranger Battalion commanded by Lt. Col. J. E. Rudder launched its D-Day attack on the German 155mm gun battery covering the US landing beaches "Omaha" and "Utah". Units of "Rudders's Rangers" climbed the 100ft. vertical cliff known as Point Du Hoc against tough opposition. Discovering the guns missing, they sought them out further inland and destroyed them. Their mission a success, they dug in and fought off two days of German counter attacks until finally relieved.
These specialized US Army Infantry are different from other D-Day Americans as they wear Airborne jump boots, HBT tunics/trousers and the British made US Assault vest (later disregarded).
